Sandy stood quite still, with butterflies in her stomach, as she read the sign again. "Tonight - Speed Dating! Ladies come and meet someone new for FREE!" Sandy had never tried speed dating before and, in fact, she didn't really understand how she was going to meet someone here but her friends and family were encouraging her to give it a try.

"I guess I have nothing to lose but my pride," she thought, as she reached for the door. Fortunately, Sandy was a regular at this bar and she knew all of the staff. It made showing up just a little bit less intimidating. Waving to a couple of the waitresses and the bartender, Sandy went to check her coat. The tables had been rearranged into a U-shape with chairs on two sides, facing each other. As Sandy understood it, the men had to pay a fee to reserve a spot at a table. The ladies were given pen and paper and a complimentary drink. Each woman, with her heart on her sleeve, would take a seat at a table as her starting point. She had ten minutes to hold a conversation with the man at that table and to jot down a note or two about whether she found him interesting enough to date. Then, a bell would ring and all the ladies had to stand and move to the next table to the right. It would proceed like this until all the ladies had conversed with all the gentlemen. Such was the process of speed dating for this particular event.

Sandy took her place at the first table and found herself face to face with a rather lovable looking fellow. He was young, quite good looking and his personality was stellar. He captivated her attention with a wonderfully witty conversation in those first few minutes. As he was speaking, Sandy realized she was not really hearing all the words. She thought she was a little overwhelmed by this event and by the fact that she was seated with what appeared to be such a nice guy, right from the outset. Regrettably, the bell sounded all too soon and that meant Sandy had to move on the next table. Shaking hands with Man #1, she made a quick note on her paper. She would be more than willing to have her contact information provided to him so they could pursue the possibility of meet-up. "I know they call it speed dating," Sandy thought with a smile, "but I never thought I'd meet someone interesting THAT quick!" All in all, she decided it was a very nice start to the night and she now couldn't wait to find out what further surprises were in store.
